Manyana-Manyana emerge as Afrox champs

Jubilation and tears of joy engulfed the College of Medicines Sports Complex indoor court after MASM`s Manyana- Manyana won the Afrox Social Netball League tournament on 24th January 2010. The MASM ladies had all reasons to celebrate as they finished with a cool 42 points from 14 games courtesy of goal shooter and Captain Charity Tembo`s excellent display throughout the three month Afrox social netball tournament. Manyana-Manyana played 14 games and came out unscratched, what an enviable record they have set. In the final game Manyana-Manyana won 17 – 15 beating Vanguard Women Socials who finished on second position with 39 points just 3 behind the Masm ladies.

Charity was the sole provider for all the baskets for the MASM ladies and to crown it all she was voted as the best netballer in the league. To everyones amazement just before the Master of Ceremonies announcement she had already started trotting to the front as if she had already known. She is a Captain who leads by example as she inspired the rest of the Masm team throughout the tournament. Charity further proved her mettle by scoring the highest number of baskets in the tournament in general and for MASM`s Manyana-Manyana it was the majority of the baskets that saw them emerge as champions. She was born on the 12th of December in 1983 in Mzuzu. She is the fourth born in a family of 9. She attended Chibavi and Katoto Primary Schools and later Katoto Secondary School. Religiously she is a Christian and attends Sunday services at Winners Chapel in Blantyre. When asked about her boyfriend, she gives me her girlish grin and then gives me a serious look that says that’s too private and she refuses to answer.

The former ESCOM sister’s player hails from Chitezi Tembo Village TA Mtwalo in Mzimba district. She had to quit her then bubbling netball career inorder to concentrate on her job at MASM in the Claims Section of the Operations Department in the year 2006. She is currently a Senior Adjudication Clerk and she believes she still has along way to go in her career. Professionally she holds a Diploma in Shipping and she is currently pursuing a certificate with the Association of Business Executive (ABE). Asked if she would consider going back to the netball court for serious netball she says her interest in the sport has surprisingly dwindled. `` The passion is gone. I just enjoy playing social netball once in a while with my work colleagues, its more fun`` commented Charity
